Foxtrot Architects

Foxtrot Architects was founded by Fiona in late 2022 as a result of an alts and adds project for a lovely couple in Bentleigh, Victoria. 

A 'Foxtrot' flag in the International Code of Signals (ICS) indicates maritime vessels in distress and means  "Communicate with me". This seems like an apt analogy for architecture - a recognition of the need for assistance to improve your home or surroundings.  (We are really big on good communication too!).

When our projects hit site, our site sign reflects the alternative meaning for the Foxtrot flag when flown on aircraft carriers  - "Flight operations underway".

 Fiona studied architecture at RMIT in Melbourne and has a broad range of experience of approx. 13 years across different firms, projects and typologies.  

Her CV includes working for Wardle, NMBW Architecture Studio and Peter Stutchbury Architecture, on projects for Monash University, RMIT University, University of Melbourne,  University of Western Sydney and City of Geelong as well as private residential clients. She has also taught design studios at Monash University.

Fiona enjoys the collaborative aspect of architecture, working closely with builders, consultants and peers to deliver joy in built form for the client / occupant.

Her key interest is architecture in the Anthropocene and examining the environment as a singular constructed condition. This lends itself to interest in conservation of built heritage and exploring ways to retain, repair and recycle.  Her motto is the most sustainable building is the one currently standing and her first instinct / approach is to optimise the existing conditions.
